Global LGBTI Human Rights Conference – Non Violence, Non Discrimination and Social Inclusion

Uruguay will host the “Global LGBTI Human Rights Conference”, co-chaired with the Kingdom of The Netherlands, in Montevideo from 13rd to 15th July 2016.

The Conference, which will take place for the first time in the region of Latin America and Caribbean, has two main objectives. In the first place, to share information, best practices and lessons learned in the promotion and protection of equal rights for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex (LGBTI) people around the world, both bilaterally and multilaterally. The second objective is to ensure better coordination of financial and political support of governments and multilateral organizations directed towards the advancement of the human rights of and the promotion of inclusive development for LGBTI persons.

In order to ensure meaningful discussion and concrete outcomes, the development of the Conference will be divided in four Working Groups, chaired by one government and one civil society partner:

“International and Regional Diplomacy” - chaired by The Netherlands,
"LGBTI inclusion in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development" – chaired by Uruguay,
“SOGI (Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity) Legislation and Shrinking space of civil society” –chaired by Argentina, and
“Coordination of donor funding” – chaired the United States

The Conference will provide an excellent opportunity to engage with representatives from civil society, multilateral organizations and governments on these issues.
